If you want to become a travel agent, you'll need to sign up with a host agency as an independent contractor, and this is where things get confusing from the get-go. There are many host agencies, and some are scammy or MLMs.
Also be sure to ask the right questions, and compare and contrast the options, before locking in. At a minimum, you'll want to know the monthly hosting fee, commission split, and if there's a contract and/or sales quota.
Additionally, a good host agency will provide you with training and other resources you need to learn the ropes of being a travel agent, including ongoing continuing education, so also be sure to ask about training and support resources. The host agency I use and recommend charges a $30
monthly hosting fee. The standard commission split is 80/20, so agents keep 80 percent. There's also a Pro plan with a 90/10 split for $40 a month.
If you join through the host agency I use and recommend, you can cancel at any time, although a 30-day notice is required.
Absolutley no sales minimum. Take it at your own pace. The training can be a lot so there is no rush.
You can pay yourself back comission for travel you are already taking. Some suppliers offer discounted rates for travel agents.
